Meet Elizabeth Demers — Our September Sheepdog of the Month

Elizabeth Demers - Nurse, Paramedic, Fire-Fighter

Elizabeth is a nurse, paramedic, and firefighter, working out of Canmore Hospital, STARS, and Canmore Fire. If there's a way to help someone in this town, chances are she's trained to do it.

Her dad was a first responder too, and he used to tell her: "If you find a job you like, you'll never work a day in your life." That stuck. Elizabeth gets to drive fire trucks, rappel off ropes, ride a jet boat, fly in a helicopter, and yes, even deliver babies. But what keeps her going is simpler: every call is a chance to make a difference, for the person she's helping, their family, her crew. She says it's the people she works alongside, all pushing toward the same goal, that make the job worth it.

One call sticks with her more than most: a pediatric call she can't share details on, but a great team and a great outcome made it one she'll never forget. Her words: "Even if that were the only call I ever did in my career, it would have been worth it."

Fun Fact? Off duty, Elizabeth keeps honey bees and composting worms.
